Penguin Random House is passionate about fostering the freedom to create for our authors and employees. This core mission is at the very heart of the Penguin Random House Creative Writing Awards. We are looking for strong, clear voices by writers who are daring, original and unafraid to take risks; we want to know how what kids of New York City public high schools have to say. Since 1994, the program has awarded more than $2.4 million dollars to public high school students for original poetry, memoir, fiction, drama and graphic novel compositions. In addition, the program brings together prominent New York City educators, teaching artists, community leaders, authors and dozens of Penguin Random House employee volunteers to inspire, guide, read, judge and celebrate the works of hundreds of diverse writers each year. This important signature program continues to empower and celebrate hundreds of young writers each year and underscores our unwavering commitment to the development and growth of new literary talent.
